One of the most prominent UNC basketball alumni in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is Vince Carter. The 42-year-old became only the fifth player in league history to play 21 seasons in the NBA following the 2018-19 season and, although he announced his retirement, it won't happen before he sets a record by becoming the only player to play 22 seasons. Appearing on ESPN's The Jump on June 5, Carter confirmed the 2019-20 season will be his last.
Playing for his eighth team this past season, Carter averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists as a member of the Atlanta Hawks. The eight-time NBA All-Star began his career with the Toronto Raptors and spent six-and-a-half years with the Canadian franchise, during which time he won Rookie of the Year and the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest, the latter of which helped make him a star on a national scale.
He averaged a career-best 27.6 points per game in 2000-01 with the Raptors and now, through 1,481 career regular season games, has averages of 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He ranks 20th all-time in points with 2,5430.
