When to Visit Venice

Venice has long been a popular tourist destination. As a result, it is often crowded and expensive. According to U.S. News & World Report, the best time to visit Venice is from September to November, when most of the tourists have departed and the hotel rates are lower. Temperatures can be unpredictable, ranging from the upper 30s to the mid-70s, but are manageable, as long as visitors wear layers as needed.

June through August sees the biggest increase in tourists, as well as the hottest temperatures. Winter, from December through February, is the coldest time of year with temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees. However, this period also offers the lowest hotel rates with the exception of the beginning of Carnaval, one of Venice’s main attractions. Temperatures are higher from March through May, but many top attractions may still be closed from their winter hiatus.
